Mar. 9th, 2020 01:09 amThe positive note from the week is that my friend D had her surgery, it will be week or so before the biopsy results are in, so that was good, my friend in Trieste might have her surgery in the morning.. or not.. she is sked to have it done in Padua, and that part of Italy is in lockdown over the coronaviris. fingers crossed for her.
Now, onto nasty rats.... I heard a pressury sort of sound coming from my garage on thursday afternoon, and I thought it might be part of the furnace, a fan or something.. so I went out to the garage and moved stuff around to get to the back, and its not the furnance, so I thinking, maybe its the tankless hot water heater, so I turned it off... still the noise, I then looked around with the flashlight and discovered a hole chewed into the wall right next to the furnace, and of course, it was a small gap due to the wall framing. With water spritzing out of it. I have a water turn off tool, so I got it out of my shed, and made an attempt, but, wasnt sure what I was doing, my brain was in full panic by this time, and I got my neigbhor B to do it for me. Then I was trying to get an emergency plumber. I discovered that the Roths heating and cooling peeps had bought up several of the smaller companies in the area, as my first three phone calls went to the same dispatcher... and the best they could do for me was an appointment on the 16th. I did get through to D&F Plumbing, which dispatched their on call plumber out to me. He couldnt reach the spot, and we arranged for him to return the next day, since the access to the crawl space was located in my master closet, and I had it full of bags of books.... it was a mess, so I spent the night making access for him. He got back here on Friday afternoon, he had work already booked up, and then when he went under the house he couldnt fix it because I had very talented rats, who not only chewed up the pipe but got it at the spot where it eneter the house.. and he didnt have the right t connectors nor his cutting tool to then get into the wall in the garage because it was a bigger fix... really really bigger. So, 845am saturday morning, he returned yet again and fixed it within an hour all told. I now how two holes in the garage/house wall to fix, but I decided I would just screw a piece of wood over both of them, just in case further works needs to be done. I cant see doing two drywall fixes right now. I am leaving the holes open so air can circulate and help dry out where I cant see, and I have my spray insulation ready to go, I found the secondary hole leading outside of the garage where they had completely torn off the insulation foam around the drip pipe and AC pipes were. my neighbor B helped me with that, while I was flailing about. He had a can of the foam already. I have gotten rat traps, poison and more spray foam, so I am ready to rock and roll... I put the poison out and will do the traps tomorrow now that I have rested up.
Its a good thing I have a tankless hot water heater, because once the very nice plumber left (and me much poorer) I turned on my shower and praised hot water, which I then stood under for quite a while. I do have the best neighbors, letting me use their bathrooms and being supportive, and they now know of a dependable emergency plumbing company.
After I started to decompress, I picked my sister up and we went to the Tarot Symposium at the Monarch hotel, because I had arranged earlier in the week to pick my repaired family bible up (its only 170 years old) from the wonderful artist who fixed it in only 9 months, I figured it would have taken longer. Ran into a couple of people I know that I havent seen in awhile, and then meandered on home. I am exhausted at this point.... between the stress of house fixes, and of course the damnable cat who only drinks water from the faucet... I was carefully dripping bottled water over the faucet for him to lap up... geez.
got more sleep last night, and my sister and I met her daughter and son in law for dinner, my niece's birthday is thursday, so we had a very good visit, and we admired the NIL's 2019 red Charger he just got. Its a very sexy muscle car, in fact, its the same exact car except for the year that my nephew D has.
My stepmom should have her cataract surgery monday, so I am on pins and needles over that now too.
Got several other things planned for the week, which I hope to do, unless I just collapse... I not up to these sort of adrenaline fueled events anymore.. borning is good!
